I was proud of myself yesterday.
DaveG and I were warming up at Metro Rock. Dave warms up at a rather lower number than I, but mostly I go along with it. I figure it can't be bad for me.
After a 5.8, he wanted to try an even lower number, a 5.7- right next to the campus board. We ran into Casey there, Sylvia's old climbing partner, engaged in controlled and powerful training.
I already know this guy kicks butt. Plus he's cute. Even if he has a girlfriend, you still want the cute athletic guy to admire you.
Dave offered me the rope after he did his first run up the 5.7. I wanted to put it down and go do something else, something harder, something not near the cute climbing god on the campus board.
Oh pride, you suck.

The Babysitter's Here - Babbling About Man Choices
Being with Pablo may not be the right choice.
"She says do me a favor don't go with a guy who would make you choose." [Dar Williams, The Babysitter]
I feel that he will always make me choose. And insist that he never wants to make anyone choose. And both will be true.
I mean, even when he wrote the first email after we spoke, talking about getting back together, there was some presumption that if I had plans to go back to school that might interfere with dating. "I propose we take it from there (and it’s OK if you want to just be and and/or go in a different direction and/or feel that you’re going to another place in your life), I’m sure you have other thoughts, concerns, fears or ideas of what you want to do, particularly in light of the exciting (in my view) developments that you briefly mentioned."
I risked dating because I felt he was so completely committed, because we were so in tune. That is less true. on the committement front, obviously, since he broke up. Secondly on the in tune front, because he certainly said the things I had hoped to hear, but changed (women friends, sx, lofty goals).
Had I not made the initial risk, knowing what I know today, would I do it now?
The things he said when we last met that encouraged me in terms of a reunion were points such as 'I would come home and do all the dirty work'. But I know he wouldn't. He simply can't deal with all day action. He said so himself, when he said 'I don't know when you get downtime, or how, [but I can't do that]'. The scenario he describes means no downtime for him. I just don't think it's realistic.
And I don't mind someone who needs downtime. I actually stand to benefit from a person like that. But it needs to be someone who is candid about it, not sneaking it in guiltily, but assured in their needs and even encouraging me to do the same...not because it would assauge their guilt in sitting on the couch, but because they think it would be nice for me.
Pablo is who he is. He is.
He admits that losing weight is hard for him. Yeah, maybe he'll be at his proper weight. I don't think it's likely, but it won't be for long. And I simply won't be attracted to him. And that would be bad. I know that.
What do I lose when I lose Pablo?
for sure:
Stability
Baby-makin'
Career motivation/support
Someone who has occasional interest in opera, museums, music, dance
Homebody
Family guy
Adoring
things I thought were for sure, but am not so sure:
Consummate father figure
Steadfast moral principles
Would help out all he can with cooking/cleaning/laundry/etc
belayer
what do I lack being with Pablo?
Someone to share goals and adventures with. (This was once in the for sure column, but has plummeted, I believe).
Like Chris and Micha, work out in the morning, go for a moderate hike, then down for dinner in the evening.
Pablo would find this wearing. We go skiing, and he sits like a lump for the entire evening.
Someone with steely resolve
Someone who tasks ME to follow through. I like a rabbit!
Cares about how he looks (how has his obsession with food affected me? how would it affect kids? if he can't do it for me, would it do it for them?..)
Offers critical feedback
Communication.
What I want:
Financially sound
Adventurous, tireless
People friendly
Communicative. Open.
Self confident
Self knowledge
Likes/wants kids
Interest in the being of things, the reason for them.

Fantastic weekend. Hiking with Micha, Chris and Gavin. Up Sandwich Mountain again. Again. But that's ok. It keeps the drive short and the tension of the unknown low.
Weekend food, loosely
Probiotic cereal on the way up, pb sammich and a couple chocolate covered strawberries on ye olde mountain, then rene bean's birthday party. There was a conch fritter, a little hummus and pita, slight diving into the tenderloin, rice and beans, then a mad fight for three desserts between five people. =)
I ate three REALLY BAD donut holes on the way to NH.
Then probably three cookies Michelle made. They were even hard and crusty from sitting out. I suck.
Sunday was in the same vein. well, I did eat a donut for breakfast but that was it. While skiing I had a non-exciting luna bar, an apple with some p.b. Ok. Then out to Olive Garden with Mom Dad Majella and Father Steve. F.S. talks entirely too much. He likes to hear himself talk. It got a little tiresome. So I ate another piece of bread. Mom, Jelly and I did share dinner, I had a little soup and plain salad with two breadsticks. And 2/3 of a gelato, effectively.
Were it not for those cookies, I wouldn't feel SO awful. But that was just dumb eating.

Elder-woman-ism
I was mildly horrified when it arrived fresh from my subconscious that I judge OLDER WOMEN who smoke. If I'm walking outside and see an old man or a young man or a young woman smoking, I smile, perhaps wish I had a puff-puff myself.
When I see an older woman smoking I actually think, "How irresponsible!" or "I can't believe she's doing that to herself!"
Where the heck does that come from?

Trivial Thoughts
Who wants to save amphibians?
There are 6000 species of amphibians on the planet, amongst them newts, salamanders, toads and frogs. 2000 of them are in imminent danger of extinction from a fungus that affects the gaseous exchange between their skin and the water. It inhibits the pores causing the frogs to die of dehydration This may already have killed 170 species in the last decade. This fungus originates from an african frog that was used for pregnancy tests in the 1940s. Basically when this frog is injected with a pregnant woman's urine, it will create eggs itself. It was used in hospitals and labratories everywhere, so they believe that the fungus is pervasive. It could affect many types of amphibians, including a giant rain forest earthworm called a caecilian, 3-4 feet long, that slinks underneath the rotting woods and leaves on the ground. Ick.
There is a project underway called Amphibian Ark, so someone cares.
Mean people teach.
You have to be empathetically diabolical to teach. You have to make people hurt to push their limits. Mentally and physically. And in pilates. Good god, these sweet, soft spoken, curvilicious dancing ladies do the most horrid things to you, and then laugh with the most endearing tinkle. How is this possible? Chris R enjoys playing the bad PT I think, but these woman leave him looking like a cookie baking grandmother. No kidding.
Skiing vignette
Last weekend at Wildcat, as I started down a bumpy run, a young girl picked her way down in parallel. We simultaneously stopped a few bumps in to assess the future and recover from the past, when the young girl's friend perched uncertainly at the top of the run hollered down, "Where are you going?" The girl told her friend to ski around and meet her at the bottom, the dialogue continued, and I continued down a bit more. I looked back up to see the friend flying over bumps on her butt. Getting up, wedging over an icy trough, then sliding sideways and down again. We were about halfway down the run when the girl yelled to her friend "WHY did you come this way?" The friend fell just then and slid on her behind from mogul to mogul at a steady speed, yelling back as the bumps jarred her voice "b-b-b-because i wan-an-ted to be-e-e with you-oo-oo!"
I couldn't help but laugh at the artless, affectionate response. The girl smiled. "You're gonna kill yourself!" The friend laughed. We all survived.
Gates That Keep You IN
The last time I worked at Millipore in Bedford I was finally issued a temporary badge so I could come and go as I pleased. I delightedly drove past the guard station and parked in the back lot and approached building F from the rear. I ended up working late that evening and waltzed out around 7:01pm to see two huge gates chained together, blocking my exit. Before I started breathing again, I noticed a man standing next to the chains that bound the gates, and he started walking towards me.
As he said, "You're lucky I waited for you. It's cold out here!" As it turns out, the lot is locked shut every night at 7pm. It's a long walk to Malden from Bedford!
Spoiled Apples and Oranges
Mr. Eastland has horribly disappointed me. I finally saw the other side of him, and he is heavy joweled, grumpy looking and has an ENORMOUS potbelly. {ref Jan 25, 07 post}

Cat, Phil Walcutt and I feasted at Helmand last night. Yum for afghan food, lamb pallow, chicken challow, pineapple cake, fried baby pumpkin and cardamom! Viciously deliciously good ice cream with dessert. I polished off the entire thing. I really don't think that's so bad though. What I find disturbing on many levels is that I followed it up with half of a leftover chocolate chip pancake that had been sitting in the car all day. So vulgar.
I am often startled by how delicious broccoli can be. Once the adrenaline ebbs I come to my senses and realize that ice cream is really much better.
Anyway, it is easy to feel fat on such a delightfully sunny day. The little winter birds were more vociferous than usual. I caught a Norman Rockwell moment when two garbage men laughed together over a trash can. The african american particularly stood out; his even chocolate face profiled against the melting snow, his smile wide and friendly.

Job Prefs
I prefer small tasks to big ones, i.e. big research projects, not so much. I get bored, demotivated. Is it a matter of breaking it down, or wanting instant gratification in the broader view?
Pablo Thinking
I don't know what to think of Pablo.
What if things don't work out?
What if Lori is right, that I need something different in the person I'm with? I tried to think of a person who sort of met my ideal of 'passion for life'. Maybe Geoff, but maybe someone who doesn't eat quite so much too. =) And I'm not sure if it's that Pablo doesn't have a passion for life, it's just perhaps not MY passion for life. I fear that we don't align very well, once he realizes where his true interests lie.
I also wonder what the truth of his work experience is at this juncture. I felt before that they expected a lot of him; and he was moving remarkably fast through the ranks. On the other hand, he WAS a straight A student at MIT, even though it took him longer to graduate, though Charlie does admit he gave him a really challenging project. He doesn't lack the intelligence.
But why is everything gone mad now? He pushed out a family of five products way fast, brilliant expectations, and now everything is crazy. All sorts of problems and expectations. Was he less than thorough? Did he get tired of the excitement and novelty? What about his superiors...shouldn't they have seen this arriving?
I think I haven't written partly because I was sidetracked and obsessed with the food thing. Also I am perhaps afraid of facing my questions and doubts.

Just Say NO
I learned to say "No" yesterday. "No" to Dex, when he asked me out to dinner. It was a hard thing to do. First, because I had a 'hole' in my calendar. That means beyond a 5pm haircut I had nothing specifically scheduled, though plenty to do (make yogurt, do my one hour of PT, taxes, quicken...the list goes on for hours). I naturally wanted to plug the hole with something specific. Second, it was hard because it was saying no. Because I felt like I should accept, I suspect he is lonely and would be disappointed if I said no.
On the other hand, he is raring with ChrisM and RonB potential. Absolutely raring. I foresee more interaction with him would lead to excessive expectations and then frustrations. I am also offended by his propensity to depart after Jan when we've arranged a weekend together, and it seems to me I would simply be filling in his lonely time, not providing a specific friendship need.
And finally, I just find him uncomfortable to be around and not terribly entertaining. And the most selfish reason of all, what is the point of investing time into a friendship with someone, with all these considerations, who lives in Virginia?
There are friendships I've neglected and others I would like to develop here. I should also be more communicative with my family, Majella particularily at this point. Performing a quasi-charity social service to someone who has connections and options galore seems a poor choice.
So I said no.
But clearly I'm writing this because I still feel guilty, though at the same time somehow relieved.

I just allowed myself to be fat this weekend. The prior weekend with Super Bowl, Roberta and Pablo was a wash. I have felt less settled and more in need of comfort since speaking with Pablo which continued to disturb my contentment with simple foods. Then breadbaking, Hope's lust for ice cream sundaes, group pizza and Redbones walked into my life when I was vulnerable and here I am on Monday. I won't even tell you what I ate this weekend; I'll just say that I was horrid. Gluttony IS a sin, even if you're not catholic.
I would propose that I've gained 2-3 pounds with all this recent badness. This is appalling.

Meal Planning
BMR (basal metabolic rate)
= 1300 calories. This is if I did nothing but sleep everyday.
3 times running moderately per week, 45 minutes each time = 135 minutes per week = 20 minutes/day
climbing = 7 hours per week = 1 hour/day
skiing = 7 hours per week = 1 hour/day
abs/elbow/balance = 45 minutes/day
= 180 minutes per day, let's say on average of moderate activity.
This equates to 2000 calories a day, meaning I am burning an average of 700 cal/day.
Macronutrient Distribution>
65% carbs / 15% protein / 20% fat
Gram Intake
minimum grams of protein per day = 50 based on bodyweight.
50 grams of protein is also exactly 15% of 1333 cal diet.
60 grams should be low end, based on a 1500 cal diet.
75 grams of protein is minimum for a 2000 cal diet
fatwise, max intake should be
20% of 2000 calories is 400 calories = about 45 grams of fat
20% of 1500 calories is 300 calories = about 35 grams of fat
Resulting thoughts:
Set goal of 75 grams of protein on every day (300 calories)
keep fat around 40 grams (320-360 calories)
fill in the rest with complex carbs (850-1350 calories, which works out to 200-350 grams)
Protein Content Guidelines
3 oz lean turkey/chicken/pork/meat (around 25g)
3 oz packet tuna (20g)
egg (6g)
1 cup milk (8g)
1 oz skim mozzarella (8g)
5.3 oz fage yogurt (13g in 80cal)
1/2 c 1% cottage cheese (14g in 90 cal)
1 c rice (5g)
1 c beans, black, lima, pinto, kidney (14g)
bread, cereal, oatmeal, grains, etc will provide a few grams here and there.
Anticipate: 10g at breakfast, 25 g at dinner, 25 g at lunch, 10 g avg each snack, driblets from side dishes of starch and veggies = 10g
Goals
avoid mood swings
avoid energy lulls (unless it is the end of the day or when relaxing)
avoid weight gain. ;-)
avoid hunger
encourage healthy digestion
exceptions:
recovery nutrition (before, after, following day?)
evening seratonin (or other relaxation period)
Balance
food balance (greens vs fruit vs meat vs etc)
2/100 fiber
synergestic combinations (i.e. protein with complex carbs and low fat)
Inclusions
yogurt daily
Exclusions
alcohol
Relaxing
All you need is about 30 grams of pure carbohydrate. Read the label or figure out what 1 to 1 ½ oz. is.
Good examples are 5 to 10 pretzels, 1 ½ to 2 cups of "light" popcorn, 5-10 rice cakes, hard candy, a small amount of chocolate (which comes with its own feel-good endorphins), or plain breakfast cereal without the milk.
You should feel results in about 20 minutes.
if fat/protein content, up to an hour before bed. super high gi carbs are not ideal either since you get a rush of seratonin
Better a simple carb, 20-30 minutes (wholegrain or sourdough bread). If high gi, eat less.
glucose is more effective at producing seratonin. therefore fruit before bed is not ideal.
calcium with carbs+tryptophan is supposed to be great.
It seems that a little bit of tryptophan from dairy with calcium, and some complex carbs are ideal
Eat a lighter meal before sleep, so digestion doesn't keep you awake.
Along these lines, eat before 9pm and after the workout.
Energizing
Some food ideas for an effective power lunch are:
Caesar salad with grilled chicken, salmon or shrimp. Ask for the salad dressing on the side and use sparingly. Ignore those croutons or wait until the end of your meal to eat a few.
Chicken and broccoli or mixed vegetables at a Chinese restaurant. Limit the rice.
Lightly sautéed fish, tofu or chicken fillet with vegetables. A light rice pilaf or pasta on the side.
Tips for a power lunch:
Start with the protein: Eat the protein before the carbohydrate in your lunch.
Good examples are (BEST is fish, shellfish, poultry, very very lean beef) (USEFUL Low-fat cottage cheese, nonfat or low-fat yogurt and milk, legumes, lentils, soyfoods)
Between three and five oz. of lean meat, fish, or poultry or
1 cup low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese
2 ounces of low-fat cheese, like feta, reduced fat mozzarella or ricotta
2 eggs (but limit yolks to no more than 3 to 4 per week).
Don't eat too much, but don't arrive too hungry at an important working lunch.
If protein is eaten with other foods, it works more effectively if it is low in fat, when the carbohydrate is complex and doesn't raise glucose significantly.

If you wish, add more vegetables to the sauce such as green beans, diced carrots, diced celery, zucchini or green peas.
Serves 2 to 3
8 ounces packed tempeh, grated
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 yellow onion, diced small
3 cloves garlic, minced
8 ounces Crimini mushrooms, chopped
1/2 cup red wine
1/2 cup Marsala wine
1 teaspoon oregano
2 teaspoons basil
2 teaspoons thyme or fresh thyme
1 medium can tomatoes, blended
1 tablespoon cane sugar
salt, pepper
In a pot, add the oil and grated tempeh and sauté at medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the onion, garlic and mushrooms and sauté for another 10 minutes. climbing = 7 hours per week = 1 hour/day
skiing = 7 hours per week = 1 hour/day
abs/elbow/balance = 45 minutes/day
= 180 minutes per day, let's say on average of moderate activity.
Specific Foods
tuna
chili
pasta
rice
tofu
hummus
crackers
nuts and seeds
lentils
brown rice augmented with veggies. makes chix and rice more fun.
tempeh spaghetti sauce
new grains (bulgar, more)
breakfast (grain+dairy+fruit):
cereal+berries+milk
yogurt with granola and fruit
eggs and toast
Recipes
Tempeh Spaghetti Sauce
If you wish, add more vegetables to the sauce such as green beans, diced carrots, diced celery, zucchini or green peas.
Serves 2 to 3
8 ounces packed tempeh, grated
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 yellow onion, diced small
3 cloves garlic, minced
8 ounces Crimini mushrooms, chopped
1/2 cup red wine
1/2 cup Marsala wine
1 teaspoon oregano
2 teaspoons basil
2 teaspoons thyme or fresh thyme
1 medium can tomatoes, blended
1 tablespoon cane sugar
salt, pepper
In a pot, add the oil and grated tempeh and sauté at medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the onion, garlic and mushrooms and sauté for another 10 minutes. Add red wine and marsala and let it simmer for 10 minutes until the wine has evaporated. Add herbs and the blended tomatoes and sugar. Let it simmer under a lid for 15 to 20 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.

ahhh, 2 caramel rolls and one orange roll. ahhh. I am so fat.
Then of all things, Julia baked last night and offers me two beautiful little caramel rolls this morning. With almonds. They had trim and neat spirals, ample cinnamon but distributed beautifully. They were a little denser than mine, I wonder if this is due to a higher egg content or, more likely, a potato base. I am eagerly awaiting her response.
(she tells me it's due to bad yeast, though that doesn't explain the flavor. She also used ghee)
AWOL Buttons
It would be fun to have a stitch and bitch. Cat and I agreed to Tuesday, February 27th.
Potential invitees: Ildi, Julia, Hilary, Akiko, Amy, Gabrielle, Laura, Jean, Mare, Meri, Rachel, Hope, Cynthia, Tina. Who might Cat invite?
Dating thoughts
If you do it, try mixing it up and see what you really like:
dating someone who you think is totally compatible, super outdoorsy, active, energetic
dating someone who has your conservative ethics
dating someone who is gobs o' fun
dating someone who places a high value on independent lives

I enjoyed lunch with Richardtoday. His take on Pablo?
I gave him the house analogy. Pablo as a house shopper passes up what would be the perfect house because it's early in his search and he doesn't know what a deal it is.
Richard thinks I should check out more houses.
Lunch was grand. We went to the Border. I ate my entire lunch, jambalya, an enchilada and a taco. Unprecedented.

Sweet Rolls Part II
What I changed:
sift flour
fridge rise overnight
1/2 dark brown sugar (for full great grand recipe used 2c cream and 2c brown sugar)
cooked in heavy skillet and glass pan
for filling used cream, sugar, butter and cinnamon in glass pan; no butter in skillet
used lots of ceylon cinnamon
Unless the house is quite warm, I think rising out of the fridge might not be such a good idea. It took forever, 3 hours. Perhaps it's not an issue, but I was concerned.
I'm also not sure how I feel about refrigeration at all, since it seems that the caramel wormed its way between the spirals and I feel it should all be on top. This overnight refrigeration perception might be due to the exorbidant amount of caramel my grandmothers use relative to most rolls. Also, I may have been too hasty in dumping the rolls out. The caramel wasn't even gooey, it was still thin and bubbly.
I did feel as if the outsides were verging on too brown and the insides were verging on too doughey. I dislike this combination.
I prefer light brown sugar to dark, I think. The dark has an edge to it; this requires a mood. The light fulfils happiness in all stages.
Based on this experiment, I would skip the cream in the filling. Definitely for refrigeration anyway, since I think the cream seeps into the dough and makes it gooey and less bread-like. A couple tablespoons of softened butter and sugar and cinnamon do quite nicely. The dough also rolls up much better.
I don't think it's possible to use too much cinnamon.
The skillet performed nicely as a pan for the rolls.

Meshing Pablo with Ramona
[Under construction]
I feel as if I need an intinerary, a plan.
Considerations:
First, the amount of climbing wouldn't change much.
Intensity, location can be adjusted to some degree.
Instead of climbing for 10 hours and squeezing in every last climb, I could focus efforts on short productive intense sessions.
Maybe we could go up to Conway for a weekend and spend more time relaxing or visiting, or even you hiking with Gw leisurely while I do a longer hike alone. Maybe you could go ice climbing...you said you DO want to ice climb. Again, my proposals and ideas and suggestions, as when we were dating, are based on what you tell me. If you don't want to ice climb, obviously this suggestion is useless.
Maybe 1 weekend away one month, 2 weekends away the next.
Perhaps more weekday climbing with people like Charlene.
This would leave more Fridays open, time for afternoon BBQ or dinner and movie on the weekend.
Would need to invest evening gym time and social time in other partners; it will be difficult to find a competent woman (Ildi? Julia? CG? Lei? Charlene?)
Day trips with guys like Ricky, Boydston, Andrew? Jack?
Last year I spent about 1 weekend per month away climbing without you during prime season. Usually it was with a group and I switched climbers between days. How did you feel about this? Is this acceptable? You actually seemed happier in this case, as opposed to being dragged along, which is what happened near the end of the season.
Don't see how I could spend more family time aside from parties, since birthdays alone comprise 30 days a year. never mind holidays and baptisms and 'special' parties, like Guadalupe. That's just my family.
It's ok to sacrifice time I might rather spend hiking to do 'down stuff'. But I would hope you'd be willing to sacrifice for me too. Certainly you have indicated that in the past, I just hope instead of a pendulum swing back perhaps it's viable to find something in the middle.
Think very seriously about the relaxation bit. Very much.
Again, passionate declaration about changing baby diapers and doing all that work. But the same things that trouble you now, i.e. no time to read, will be forced on you with children...you won't be able to make the choice. Or in making the choice you WILL force that work on your partner. Do you think you can sustain this for the years necessary? Usually until kids are in middle and high school? There are lots of women out there who are ok with taking additional work on.
My concern is you may not have tapped into the reality of the requirements. Like thinking being in a relationship is "just living". Or thinking you wanted to climb 2.5 weekends a month, which you never did. The numbers work out to you climbing half of your weekends, and that was overwhelming to you.
I could certainly not blame someone for working long long days in a row and weekends and seeking comfort in a pint of ice cream. I wouldn't judge you for that. But using this an explanation for your weight gain in a non-stressful time is again, not facing the reality. the reality is, when not stressed and with no time commitments, it's difficult. Maybe the reality for you is that you require medical help. Or maybe the reality for you is that you don't know if you can ever maintain a healthy weight.
I think we spent a lot of time in the same vicinity but not together. A lot of this is my fault. I plan everything but I don't plan you. Just like the most basic daily things, sleeping, eating, bathing etc. a relationship falls too often inbetween those long lines of lists. I think I assume it isn't list worthy because, well, how could I forget about a relationship! But the fact is, in the moment, I look to what I wrote and not what I know.
We would be better off, I think, spending two weeknights together instead of four, spending our solo time taking care of personal business, financials for you, climbing/running for me, as an example. Maybe every other week have Monday night dinner with your parents. Maybe the other night plan for us, not anything extravagent, just dinner and catch up time.
I am more social than you. You may not like this, but maybe this is part of the relaxing part for me that you don't see. Spending time with friends, at least in certain situations, keeps me balanced. Sometimes I like to go away for a weekend to ski, not because I want to ski for two days, but because I like to see people, catch up with them, get renewed perspectives and be stimulated by other ideas from people I respect. I feel balanced by good conversation with other women, not just my sisters, their insights are valuable to me. It is important to me to develop relationships like this.
For example, this weekend I am going to the Berkshires to hang out with Hope and Norm and ski at Jiminy Friday and Saturday night. I am keen to ski Friday and Saturday night, but I am also staying over all Saturday to hang out during the day. If I were just going to ski I could more easily go to Wachusett mountain Saturday night.
I thought a lot about skiing and how I often spend the entire weekend away. Aside from social considerations, I wondered why it is so difficult or unusual for me to spend the weekend here. I realized it is because to find other people who are excited to do it, I have to go where they want to go (like Sunday River, ATtitash, whatever). If someone, you for example, said 'hey, why don't we ski at Wachusett two nights this weekend', that would be totally cool. Maybe it would be a way for you to not get overwhelmed by the frenzied packing and constant motion and still do the other things you want to do. But this presumes you would want to ski. I'm not sure how much you do.
I've thought a lot about my activities in general and one thing I've tried to do too much is squeeze in 'general' working out. Thinking that if I run, climb, jump, lift in any spare moment when I'm not too exhausted from the previous workout it'll make me better. And maybe it will. But what I realized is that I can focus and be more efficient. I think, 'why am I doing this? does this bring me closer to my goals?'
Part of it is also the 'stupid workout'. I.e. I want to gorge at a super bowl party and therefore I'll run more. But what I really need to do is control my appetite more so I'm not playing this game of needing to exercise merely to work off cookies. So right now I run 2-3 times a week instead of 5. My BRG workouts are more focused and kept to two hours. This is good from your perspective since theoretically it should make more time. It could be bad since it would need to be more regimented and less flexible.
When I return Sunday Catherine and I are taking out Pat, her brother, for a thank you dinner. Before that I will go to the BRG and climb with Sylvia and her daughters and Dave Gibbs and his son. This obviously will not be a training session for me; in fact, I'll probably do very little climbing. But it is something Sylvia and Dave are interested in sharing with me, I am interested in developing relationships with them and their families, and our gathering is in the context of something I love to do, which is climbing.
Would this bother you?
You may not derive the same pleasure from these interactions; you don't seem to value friendship or social interaction the same way. I think it's important for you to consider this side of me as well. It's not something you've verbalized, but something I do wonder about.
I want to do the same things; it's the timing, location, partners and duration that can be adjusted. Will that work?
I need to hear constructive criticism on what I can do better.
I need to hear what bothers you, no matter what it is. You need to realize that telling me something you don't like, even if it's not a matter of right and wrong, is important since it affects how you relate to me. You also need to remember (we seem to come back to this a lot) that mentioning things like this doesn't mean you're making a demand, it means you're expressing your feelings to someone who ultimately is understanding and wants you to be happy. And if things can be worked out, they will be.
We need to be able to communicate on the most uncomfortable topics, since I think avoiding them is the most damaging.
For example, the period during your weight gain. I felt like you were secretive about your eating habits and misdirected me about your intentions.
I feed this at the least by my own expectations and wants (which will exist) and perhaps also by historically negative behaviour (which shouldn't exist, and this is my fault).
If we can find a way to broach such topics, averting negative behaviour while being candid, I think we could experience exponentially greater success.
If you are gaining weight or otherwise not taking care of yourself, it is likely I will not be attracted to you. This doesn't mean I despise you, but reasonably, you can't expect me to be drawn to you in this case.
I feel as if I need an intinerary, a plan.

Funny how that works.
Another idea: plan dessert days. Yes, tell yourself you can have a 200cal dessert on Tuesdays and Fridays, for example. Plan for it, pick something you love and eat it.
Here's a little focus.
About grad school:
Healthsouth of Woburn didn't return my calls. Step back, go the simple route and shadow Lori for a day. KISS.
Research 'modified PT' careers that might permit a little more private time and/or creativity.
Get story to a place with Scott:
A very clear idea of the outline
Add the portion about climbing practice and thoughts
Try to rewrite the same bit from Todd's eyes (I think I prefer that she plummets in this case)
Write the bit about the final rope issues on THE climb
Physical
No slacking on PT activities
2-3 days meaningful BRG activity

Balancing Micro?Nutrients: Tryptophan vs Tyrosine
[Under construction]
Not only do we want to balance our macronutrients of protein, carbs and fat, but also consider which proteins to eat when.
This is fascinating.
These two amino acids influence the top four neurotransmitters, seratonin, dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine.
They differ in that the body can make only one (Tyrosine) and that Tryptophan affects seratonin levels while Tyrosine affects the other three neurotransitters.
Seratonin (in addition to melatonin) relaxes the brain, the other three neurotransmitters (in addition to adrenaline) rev up the brain.
Carbohydrates influence seratonin in addition to Tryptophan. We know this because if we eat a crapload of carbs in ratio to protein we'll get a sugar high and then crash with unduly high seratonin levels. A bio explanation of this is as follows: The carbohydrates trigger the release of insulin, which sends the amino acids that compete with tryptophan into muscle tissue. This allows more tryptophan to get into the brain.
The ratio of tryptophan to tyrosine has a similar influence. Too much tryptophan and we can make sludge of our brain.
The important bit, as in, application:
Tryptophan
Proteins that contain high levels of tryptophan: chocolate, pastries and desserts, bean burritos, nuts and seeds (e.g., almonds, filberts, sunflower and sesame seeds), and legumes. eggs, milk, bananas, sunflower seeds, avocado, and meat.turkey, milk, oil-rich fish, avocado, pumpkin seeds
Tyrosine
Proteins that contain high levels of tyrosine: seafood, soy, meat, eggs, and milk products. seafood, turkey, tofu, legumes, and tuna. meat, eggs, fish, milk products, beans, nuts and soy products.
Best Sources:
Fish, shellfish, poultry (without the skin), very lean beef trimmed of all visible fat
Useful Sources:
Low-fat cottage cheese, nonfat or low-fat yogurt and milk, legumes, lentils, soyfoods
Don't Count On:
Beef, lamb, pork and pork products (bacon, etc.), cold cuts (unless specifically labeled low-fat), organ meats, hard cheeses, whole milk and whole milk yogurt
Tyrosine for Energy
Tyrosine gives you energy. The order in which you eat is important too. Start with the protein with a high level of tyrosine, then move into the carbs to keep a good energy flow. If protein is eaten with other foods, it works more effectively if it is low in fat, when the carbohydrate is complex and doesn't raise glucose significantly.
Trytophan to Relax
Now, sometimes you WANT to relax and sleep. Then go ahead and dip into tryptophan and carbs! Good stuff for before bed.
This doesn't suggest that you eat cake before bed. For dinner and bedtime snacks, eat a meal or snack that is high in complex carbohydrates, with a small amount of protein that contains just enough tryptophan to relax the brain. An all- carbohydrate snack, especially one high in junk sugars, is less likely to help you sleep. You'll miss out on the sleep-inducing effects of tryptophan, and you may set off the roller-coaster effect of plummeting blood sugar followed by the release of stress hormones that will keep you awake. The best bedtime snack is one that has both complex carbohydrates and protein, and perhaps some calcium. Calcium helps the brain use the tryptophan to manufacture melatonin. This explains why dairy products, which contain both tryptophan and calcium, are one of the top sleep-inducing foods.

The Power Lunch Actualized
The best way to eat for alertness during your workday is to have a lunch that contains protein, is low in fat, and has carbohydrate that won't drag you down. Mid-day is when your brain's supply of dopamine and norepinephrine is beginning to wane. When you supply the tyrosine (from eating protein), your brain will be ready to make it into more of the two alertness neurotransmitters (dopamine and norepinephrine).
Tips for a power lunch:
Start with the protein: Eat the protein before the carbohydrate in your lunch.
Good examples are:
Between three and five oz. of lean meat, fish, or poultry or
1 cup low-fat yogurt or cottage cheese
2 ounces of low-fat cheese, like feta, reduced fat mozzarella or ricotta
2 eggs (but limit yolks to no more than 3 to 4 per week).
Don't eat too much, but don't arrive too hungry at an important working lunch.
Keep the foods low in fat. You'll begin to digest the protein easier and keep the mind alert.
Don't load up on bread or a heavy appetizer at the beginning of the meal.
No alcohol: It dulls the mind.
Order foods that don't require a lot of focus to eat them. Keep it simple.
The same concepts work if you're having a working dinner and need to maintain an alert mind through the evening.

10 BALANCED BREAKFASTS
An ideal, nutritious breakfast contains a balance of complex carbohydrates and protein. Think grains, plus dairy, plus fruits. Examples of balanced breakfasts are:
granola cereal, yogurt, a sliced apple
scrambled eggs, toast, orange juice
veggie omelet, bran muffin, fruit with yogurt
whole-grain pancakes or waffles topped with berries and/or yogurt, milk
whole-wheat zucchini pancakes topped with fruit, milk
french toast topped with fruit, orange juice or milk
low-fat cheese melted on toast with a piece of fruit
low-fat cream cheese on a whole-grain bagel, orange juice
peanut butter and banana slices on an english muffin, milk
For a breakfast-on-the-run smoothie, see "School-Ade."
Of course, it's what you eat not what you say that impresses a child most. By treating yourself to a healthy breakfast, you model to your children that eating a healthy breakfast gives the whole family a smart nutritional start.
SCHOOL-ADE: A BREAKFAST-ON-THE-RUN SMOOTHIE
Here is a Sears family recipe for a smoothie we give our children and ourselves for a quick and nutritious breakfast as they are hurrying off to school and we are rushing off to work.*
3 cups milk or soy beverage
1-1/2 cups plain nonfat yogurt
1-2 servings Juice Plus+® Complete or similar multinutrient supplement
one banana
1 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 cup each of your favorite fruit, frozen (e.g., organic strawberries, papaya, mango)
2 tbsp. flax oil or 1/2 cup flaxseed meal?
4 ounces tofu
2 tbsp. peanut butter (optional)
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 avocado
Combine all the ingredients and blend until smooth. Serve immediately after blending while the mixture still has a bubbly milkshake-like consistency.
We formulated this recipe based on the principle of "synergy." The nutrients consumed together enhance each other's benefits, so the whole nutritional effect is greater than the sum of its parts. I have prescribed this recipe for several hundred school-children and their parents, and we drink it ourselves four to five mornings a week. It's a powerful performance booster for working parents and school-children.
Because fiber steadies the absorption of carbohydrates and therefore contributes to a steadier blood sugar, we suggest using rich sources of fiber, such as flaxseed meal (i.e. ground flax seeds, containing both the oil and fiber), although flax oil has a more palatable consistency than flaxseed meal. For additional fiber, if you don't mind a grainier texture, add 1 tbsp. or more of oat bran.
This family-size recipe makes four 16-ounce servings (approximately 550 calories per serving). Adjust the recipe to the desired taste and volume. Besides being tasty, it's nutritionally balanced, with each serving containing approximately 25 to 30 grams of protein, 55 to 60 grams of carbohydrates, 8 to 16 grams of fat (mostly healthy omega 3's), and 5 to 10 grams of fiber. Enjoy!

Eating to Calm and Relax:
The Tryptophan/Carbohydrate Effect
Even though tryptophan is an amino acid, eating protein will not get more tryptophan into the brain. This is because tryptophan competes for entry into the brain and if there are too many other amino acids around, it won't get in. But when carbohydrate is eaten without protein, the competition is decreased. As the carbohydrate is metabolized, there is a "pool" of amino acids that keeps circulating in the bloodstream and the circulating tryptophan easily passes into the brain where it's made into serotonin. Eating carbohydrate without protein has a calming effect. How calming it is depends on the type of carbohydrate, the amount eaten and the time of day.
Eating carbohydrate that is low on the Glycemic Index will promote the more focused and calming aspect of serotonin release and less of the sleepy, sluggish feeling. What is the Glycemic Index? It describes the rate at which carbohydrate is digested to glucose in the blood. Eating foods that require a strong insulin response: ones that are High-Glycemic, get the most tryptophan into the brain and have the most serotonin produced. You don't need to eat very much of these to have the desired effect, about 1 to 2 ounces is enough (30 grams of carbohydrate). Because fruit provides fructose instead of glucose, it tends to be less effective at stimulating serotonin production. In short, it's ineffective at producing the calm and focused effect of serotonin, even though it's healthy to eat.
High-Glycemic Carbohydrates
Sugar, white bread, rice cakes, wheat crackers, bagel, instant rice, baked potato, rice pasta
Low Glycemic Carbohydrates
Brown rice, buckwheat, wholegrain rye bread, sourdough rye bread, pita bread, sweet potato, most wheat pastas
While both High- and Low-Glycemic carbohydrates have the effect of allowing tryptophan to get into the brain, Low-Glycemic carbohydrates tend to sustain your "blood sugar" without producing a subsequent low. When your glucose gets low, energy levels fall and you can feel tired, irritable, unmotivated and confused. That's taking the relaxing serotonin effect to an extreme. If High-Glycemic carbohydrates are the ones you choose, then remember you don't need much to have the desired calming effect. Too much will overdo it, especially when energy levels are normally lower, like in the later afternoon or evening.
If you need to "punch out" from work:
All you need is about 30 grams of pure carbohydrate. Read the label or figure out what 1 to 1 ½ oz. is.
Good examples are 5 to 10 pretzels, 1 ½ to 2 cups of "light" popcorn, 5-10 rice cakes, hard candy, a small amount of chocolate (which comes with its own feel-good endorphins), or plain breakfast cereal without the milk.
Low-fat carbohydrate offers the quickest stress relief. If you choose potato chips, you may have to eat twice the amount to get the desired result. It simply takes longer to be digested and get into your bloodstream.
You should feel results in about 20 minutes. Of course, consciously sitting down and doing this will also help the mind relax. Breathing supports this mind/body experience, but you have actually changed your brain chemicals, so supportive relaxing techniques make it work even more effectively.
The Thanksgiving MysteryIf you have a very heavy and complex meal like Thanksgiving, you're likely to be ready for a nap. Is this because of serotonin production? No. This is because of the energy needed to digest all the food you ate. More blood is in your stomach and intestines, making less blood available to your brain. This is why I have emphasized low fat, easy-to-digest examples to get the most dramatic results.
SNOOZE FOODS
These are foods high in the sleep-inducing amino acid tryptophan:
Dairy products: cottage cheese, cheese, milk
Soy products: soy milk, tofu, soybean nuts
Seafood
Meats
Poultry
Whole grains
Beans
Rice
Hummus
Lentils
Hazelnuts, Peanuts
Eggs
Sesame seeds, sunflower seeds
BEST BEDTIME SNACKS
Foods that are high in carbohydrates and calcium, and medium-to-low in protein also make ideal sleep-inducing bedtime snacks. Some examples:
apple pie and ice cream (my favorite)
whole-grain cereal with milk
hazelnuts and tofu
oatmeal and raisin cookies, and a glass of milk
peanut butter sandwich, ground sesame seeds (It takes around one hour for the tryptophan in the foods to reach the brain, so don't wait until right before bedtime to have your snack.)
BEST DINNERS FOR SLEEP
Meals that are high in carbohydrates and low-to-medium in protein will help you relax in the evening and set you up for a good night's sleep. Try the following "dinners for sleep":
pasta with parmesan cheese
scrambled eggs and cheese
tofu stirfry
hummus with whole wheat pita bread
seafood, pasta, and cottage cheese
meats and poultry with veggies
tuna salad sandwich
chili with beans, not spicy
sesame seeds (rich in tryptophan) sprinkled on salad with tuna chunks, and whole wheat crackers
Lighter meals are more likely to give you a restful night's sleep. High-fat meals and large servings prolong the work your digestive system needs to do, and all the gas production and rumblings may keep you awake. Some people find that highly-seasoned foods (e.g., hot peppers and garlic) interfere with sleep, especially if you suffer from heartburn. Going to bed with a full stomach does not, for most people, promote a restful night's sleep. While you may fall asleep faster, all the intestinal work required to digest a big meal is likely to cause frequent waking and a poorer quality of sleep. Eat your evening meal early.
Heed the sleep wisdom: "Don't dine after nine."

Tempeh Spaghetti Sauce
Here's a delicious spaghetti sauce recipe that contains a nice source of proteins and carbs from tempeh — a traditional beancake made from soy. PCC Greenlake cook Birgitte Antonsen made this at a Vegetarians of Washington demo and it truly provided all the aroma, texture and flavor adored by fans of meat sauces.
Birgitte suggests this sauce for cooked spaghetti, mashed root vegetables or potatoes. If you wish, add more vegetables to the sauce such as green beans, diced carrots, diced celery, zucchini or green peas.
Serves 2 to 3
8 ounces packed tempeh, grated
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 yellow onion, diced small
3 cloves garlic, minced
8 ounces Crimini mushrooms, chopped
1/2 cup red wine
1/2 cup Marsala wine
1 teaspoon oregano
2 teaspoons basil
2 teaspoons thyme or fresh thyme
1 medium can tomatoes, blended
1 tablespoon cane sugar
salt, pepper
In a pot, add the oil and grated tempeh and sauté at medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the onion, garlic and mushrooms and sauté for another 10 minutes. Add red wine and marsala and let it simmer for 10 minutes until the wine has evaporated. Add herbs and the blended tomatoes and sugar. Let it simmer under a lid for 15 to 20 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.

How many weekends? 26
Of these, how many long climb weekends? 5: fourth of july, birthday, memorial day, two weekends in the Tetons
How many weekends away? 8
May: Wp, Wn, 1p June: 1p, 1.5p, Wn, 1/2p July: DACKSp, 1p, 1/4p, Wp, Wn Aug: TET, TET, 1n, 1/2p
Sep: LWp, 3/4p, Wp, [packing....family....moving] Oct: Wp Wp [metropolitan N], 1n,
How many weekends away with Pablo? 5
How many weekends away without Pablo? 3
How many full days climbing? 6 (4 with Pablo, 2 without)
How many partial days climbing? 5 all with Pablo
Of the 26 weekends, exactly half were spent away by me. Pablo didn't participate for 3 of these, he spent 10 weekends away of the 26.
Additionally, I spent 6 full days climbing and 5 half days climbing, about 1 day for each of the remaining weekends.
Pablo spent 4 full days climbing and 5 half days climbing.
Which works out to 1 day out of every other weekend.
Very little weekday climbing
Mona's "Speech" and Needs
Need communication. Openness. No fear.
I derive happiness from establishing goals and work hard to achieve them. There will always be something. Writing, music, kids, something. Some you may like, some you may not.
In lieu of current goals:
Work out pretty much every day.
Right now:
3 days at the climb gym
2 morning runs
45"-1 hour PT /day
2 antagonistic days at the regular gym (2 hours)
Summer: 3 out of 4 weekends on rock. not necessarily both days on each weekend. but count on a couple weekends being both days (or 4 weekends, with 2 of them being one day of climbing)
there would need to be some compromise with weather
My biggest mistake...not making enough time in the last couple months for Pablo time.

Pablo's Speech and Needs
He arrived with 2 bulleted pages entitled "Talking Points", so he wouldn't miss anything.
It just seems like it should be easier, if two people are meant for each other.
I can't believe the best thing that ever happened to me wasn't . . .
I thought we could _just live_ and it would work.
On sex, he said it was very hard on him and he's sorry I had to take the fallout of that.
I'm so sorry for the constant comment 'You're no fun.' The first couple times it's funny, but I know it hurt your feelings. I feel like I'm always sticking my foot in my mouth, like when I said something about breaking your hand. I would change those words if I could.
I would like to hold you while falling asleep but I just can't sleep on my back no matter how hard I try. I remember one time I did when I was a kid, with my hands folded, my family said I looked like I was in a coffin.
I realized I didn't understand you, I didn't know what was going on inside. Like that day my mom exploded, I was being taken by surprise. Sometimes I would find out things, but by accident. And I think I should've checked in, asked you every once in a while what you were thinking and what goes on in your head. I remember once I asked a question and you said "wow! you thought of that" and I was so excited. It was like hitting a ball out of the park, connecting just once.
The weight. The elephant in the room.
The comfort of the ice cream after a day of working and sleeping, "the only good thing about that day."
The difficulty, not understanding why it is so difficult to control.
Just because I'm an engineer at work doesn't mean everything is logical to me.
{but there's more}
Relaxing. I don't understand how you relax, if you need to.
I would try to help get things off your list, but there was always more, and then it was time to go to bed.
But I didn't want to sit there and do something else, like read a book, while you were working.
Especially during the week, when there was no rest, then packing up for the weekend, and going all weekend, then coming home and throwing everything inside and doing it all over again.
Climbing.
you will want to climb more. you said 'I need to find a new belayer'.
you'll want to climb harder, and it's mostly men who climb harder, so you'll climb with men.
you being away for the weekend with a man and sharing an intimate experience is something I can not stand.
And I can't ask you to not do it.
Med school is different, even though it would be longer and busier than climbing goals, because climbing is a 'hobby'.
{what do you want?}

"I thought you deserved an explanation."
"If you ever decide I'm not an idiot and want to climb less, let me know."

110.4
Sat a.m. I was 106.8 after engaging in tacos and four snickerdoodles Friday night. then arrived a half cupcake with mocha. then mexican indulgence in NYC. then sunday breakfast, panckakes, eggs, potatoes. 2 slices of toast that weren't mine. and super bowl. so many brownies, chips and dip, raw veggies. coupla wings. some m&ms. 2 pieces pizza. a drink. two mexi appetizers. nutter butters. monday dunkies. and two cupcakes right after the doughnut before the workout. Home to some bread. This is disgusting.
In the moment I think, 'I can get away with this'.
Or even, 'my body can't possibly directly convert all this into body fat.'
But there are too many moments.
And who knows what the conversion percentage is. I'm deciding it's low because I want to believe that.
And that fact is, if I feel ill from eating too much, I am gluttonous and that's a problem.
I like the Oprah Winfrey suggestion: don't eat two hours before bed. If I can stick to that, I think it would help.S

PMS Dodgeball
I'm PMSing AND I'm really irritated with people who put me in the middle of their own interpersonal problems.
Exhibit A
Yesterday morning I told JuliaM that Andrew and I were running on Friday. She put out a note about an hour later to a select group asking if we'd like to run Friday at 6 or 6:15.
I assumed that if she wanted to avoid Andrew, knowing he and I were running, she would avoid the usual parking lot and/or the usual time, which is 6:15.
Later that afternoon Julia sent me an email saying she'd be running with other people than me at 6:15am. ok fine.
So I kept my date with Andrew this morning and we both arrived at the usual parking lot at the usual time and it was already inhabited by Julia, Hilary and another friend. It was crowded. No, I mean stifling. Just plain awkward.
There was perhaps some mumbling about so and so wants to do a different loop. Who really knows.
In any case we broke into our two respective groups, one took the trunk, one took the tail, and off we parted into the woods. Thankfully for different distances so Andrew and I returned to a much more spacious parking lot.
Julia emailed later today, after the uncomfortable overlap, referring to the awkward parking lot scene. And later mentioned "that's why i emailed you to say i was running at 6:15." What did she think? That I was going to shift my plans to suit her personal issues with flapping boy?
There are only two people who should be doing any shifting, and that's Julia and Andrew. The rest of us should be none the wiser.
I am overly irritated due to hormones. But I think displeasure is not unjustified.
Exhibit B
Roberta is coming to the opera. Roberta wants to visit Eli and Rachell. Rachell wants to watch Super Bowl so I have to drive Roberta up to NH rather than people coming down to visit her and sparing us both a lot of time in the car. This is ok.
My mom wants to host a brunch for Roberta on Sunday morning. This is also ok.
My mom also knows Roberta will stay at Eli and Rachell's. But she strongly suggested that _I_ stay at Mom and Dad's house. I think this is partly due to her competitiveness with Rachell...she doesn't want Rachell to get all the hostessing honors. She and Rachell also seem stubbornly incapable of communicating on such matters.
In order to make Roberta's stay as smooth as possible, and just to be helpful, I wanted to find out what mass Eli and Rachell were going to attend and determine if it was possible for her make Mom's 11am brunch. I was experiencing difficulty leaving a voicemail for Rachell today (the phone range for 7 minutes and 56 seconds -that's another another sign of PMS when you'll wait obstreperously for nearly 8 minutes for someone to pick up the phone). In the end, I left my mom a message instead asking her to be in touch with Eli and Rachell about what time she should have brunch ready. Now that everyone is aware of who is hosting what and who is staying where, this seemed to make sense.
My mom leaves me a brittle message back saying 'Sometimes Eli and Rachell don't pick up the phone when I call, so I don't know, I'll just have brunch ready at 11am unless you tell me differently.'
This just seems stupid. If my mom wants me to come to her house Saturday night and stay there, how on earth am I supposed to have any more information about Eli and Rachell's plans than she does?
Also, first expecting me to run over to her house Saturday night after dropping off Roberta at Eli and Rachell's, does she expect me to find out when they'll be back from mass, then run BACK over to their house, pick up Roberta and bring her back to her house? Then run Roberta back over to Eli and Rachell's?
She makes me crazy.
UPDATE: I just called me mom and left her a long message. In fact, it was so long, I had to leave two messages.
(Message 1)
I got your message, since I'll be at your house Saturday night I won't know what's going on or when they'll be back from mass. Also, someone will have to bring her over since it seems rather silly for me to run over to their house after I come to your house Saturday night. But, I don't know if you want Eli and Rachell to bring her over since I don't know if they're invited to brunch. I think since you and Rachell are doing all the hosting for Sunday, for you two to figure out logistics rather than have me in the middle. I"m bring up Roberta...
(Message 2)
I'm bringing up Roberta to visit you guys, not me, so it would be nice if you guys can figure out what your doing. Basically I'd like to bring her up Saturday night and we should know, no matter which house we're at, what's going on for Sunday. Look forward to seeing you and hope you're having a great day.
If the length didn't give it away, probably the content did. They'll be glad when I'm on my IB and tampax. =)

WeighIn

In the afternoon I ingested a piece of Godiva almond bark, a fair amount of bread, half of Cat's last peanut butter chocolate bar, leftover mexican from lunch (yes, I also had mexican for lunch), two drinks at the Middle East and a small piece of bread as a pre-bed snack.
Even though I overate, it wasn't by 1-2 pounds. During the day, I had experienced meaningful egress so it's possible my ingest far exceeded it, my ingest caused water retention, or my looming period caused water retention.
The weekend looks pretty much heinous in terms of health management, exercise, nutrition and sleep. On Saturday, Amy is going to pack a goodie box for the ride down to NYC. Then we'll be going out to dinner after the opera. Sunday will be brunch at my mom's then the superbowl party at Rachell's. Monday morning will likely be breakfast before returning Roberta to the airport.
Sleeping will also be difficult, at least until Sunday.
Ingestion
I will focus on moderate ingestion for today and tomorrow, Thursday and Friday. I am skipping Shu's lunch at the Chinese restaurant tomorrow.
Working out is improbable for Saturday, it will be difficult enough to get in the hour of PT. However, plan to run, pilates and PT Friday. Run or hike (between 1pm and 5pm) and PT (during brunch) on Sunday. Finally, Monday, do PT (in the morning), a gym session of either type and cycling (after dropping off Berta).
Sleeping
Don't rush from but don't linger in NYC. Try to get back to NH and into bed by midnight. A 9:30 mass would be perfect, then off to brunch at mom's around 11am. Sunday night, go over to mom's by 9. Get in bed around 10 for a 6am wakeup.

Cowboy Mouth
Patrick, Michelle, Cat and I saw Cowboy Mouth last night. I am soooo old. I was wondering why the concert wasn't over yet when no one had even started playing. However, once the mouth was on 12:30 arrived very quickly. Also, my back bothered me. I had to execute modified JUADs (jump up and downs), BLARs (booty left and right) and BAAFs (booty aft and forward).
I had a good time. Even decrepit and tired as I was. Patrick was a prince too, bought my drinks and even a CD as part of the XMas package. What a honey.
It ain't the same, but sometimes it's fun to duck in the door to remember.
